Your iPhone charging cable will soon be changed as Apple’s final deadline for the switch has been announced

Apple will be forced to use a new charging connector for iPhones by the end of 2024.
EU legislators have finally set a deadline for when USB-C has to be the universal cable for new smartphones.
And while the decision is meant to only affect EU countries, it’s very likely device makers like Apple will apply the changes globally to avoid the hassle of making two different models.
In the last step, the new USB-C law was published and thus formally binding.
They will enter into force in 20 days, while Member States have up to 24 months to transpose them into national law.
That means all new smartphones and tablets must use USB-C by December 28, 2024.

Most new devices already use USB-C, but the iPhone was the big glaring exception, having used its own Lightning connector for a long time.
Apple has already indicated it will comply with the ruling, despite warning that the massive change could stifle innovation.
There are already plans to extend the measures to even more devices, such as laptops, by spring 2026.
Of course, folks who already own an iPhone or other non-USB-C smartphone don’t need to part with their Lightning cables.
You can use them as long as your iPhone works.
But the next one you buy will likely have USB-C instead.

Analysts expect Apple to transition the iPhone to USB-C as early as 2023 with the rumored iPhone 15.
However, Apple hasn’t confirmed when USB-C will arrive on the iPhone.
