So you will often search for something, only to find that you don’t get exactly what you hoped for.

What you need to do is a Moderator – these affect how Google “read” your searches.

The two main Operators were shared in a popular clip from TikTok creator @ellyawesometech.

In that video, Elly reveals how you can put a minus symbol right before a word (direct contact, no spaces) to remove it from Google Search.

For example, if you want to read about Alexander Hamilton but not the musical, you can search: Alexander Hamilton -musical -broadway

This will tell Google not to show search results with those terms in.

Another trick is to use quotes to find exact matches on phrases.

For example, you can search for burgers by bean and get results for other burgers as well.

But if you search for “bean burger”, Google will search for that exact term – greatly improving your search.

You can also remove entire phrases using the minus symbol and quotes using a combination of the methods above.

Elly only shared two Google Executives in her viral clip, but there’s a lot you can try.

Other Google operators to try
