A man charged with the murders of Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee and assaulting a third man has been remanded in custody until next month.
Ousef Palani, 22, of 10 Markievicz Heights, Sligo, appeared before Sligo District Court this morning via video link from Castlerea Prison.
Mr Palani has been in custody since being charged following a special session at Sligo District Court on April 14.
Mr Palani, dressed in a gray tracksuit and green polo shirt and carrying a two-litre bottle of orange, was escorted into the room by two prison officers.
He confirmed to the clerk that he could hear proceedings, “Yes, I can,” he said.
Palani welcomed Judge Sandra Murphy and her attorney.
His attorney, John Anderson, asked Palani how he was doing, to which he replied, “Intact.”
Mr. Anderson said there would be no bail request and asked Judge Murphy to further adjourn consent between the two parties until June 9 as the Garda file is still being prepared.
“It’s a complex file, as you can imagine,” Mr. Anderson said.
Mr. Anderson told Judge Murphy the file covered three separate matters.
He said the state is awaiting direction from the DPP regarding the Section 4 assault charges.
Sergeant Derek Butler agreed to the adjournment and confirmed that the file was still in the preparatory phase for the DPP.
Judge Murphy remanded Palani in Castlerea Prison and ordered him to appear again via video link before Sligo District Court on 9 June 2022.
It is the third time that Yousef Palani has appeared in court charged with the murder of two men and assaulting another causing harm over three days, April 9-12, at various locations around the city of Sligo.
The 22-year-old is charged with the murder of auctioneer and political activist Aidan Moffitt, 41, on April 10 at his home in Cartron Heights, Sligo.
He has also been charged with the April 12 murder of retired care assistant Michael Snee, 58, at the City View Apartments in Sligo.
He is also charged with seriously injuring a third man on Cleveragh Road in Sligo on April 9.
At his last appearance, the court heard that Palani was receiving psychiatric treatment while in custody.
