YOUNG runners will return to the Brighton Half Marathon when the race announces its new charity partner.
Supported by Rockinghorse Children’s Charity, youth races are set to make a comeback after last being held in 2019.
Runners aged 7 to 17 will challenge themselves on part of the main route and run a mile along the Hove promenade.
Holly Freeman, Youth Race Event Manager said: “After a three year absence it’s great to welcome young runners back to the Brighton Half Marathon. The atmosphere at the start line is always amazing and the support from friends and family is quite unique – it’s loud but a lot of fun.”
Young runners have timing chips to record their score so they can compare it to others in their age group. Family and friends can cheer from the side of the boardwalk.
The three best runners will be awarded and everyone involved will receive a T-shirt and a medal for their performance.
Racing returns as the half marathon welcomes Rockinghorse as a new charity partner. The charity supports sick and disabled babies, children and young people in hospitals such as the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton.
Emma Cunliffe, Supporter Engagement Manager for Rockinghorse said: “We are delighted to be the Official Charity Partner for the Youth Race this year. As a local children’s charity, it seems like a great addition to be partnered with such a wonderful event that caters to young people.
“As many of the children who participated have been treated at the Alex or know someone who has, it is fantastic to be able to help us raise funds for essential equipment and services to help other young people. We are really looking forward to cheering everyone on the day.”
The Brighton Half Marathon Youth Races will take place alongside the main half marathon on Sunday 26th February 2023. Anyone wishing to take part in the event can register at www.brightonhalfmarathon.com/youthrace.
