SPACE nerds were stunned after discovering what appears to be a strange statue on Mars.
A photo of the red planet’s surface appears normal at first glance, but eagle-eyed observers noticed something odd among the rocks upon closer inspection.
“Interesting photo of Mars with a face or some sort of statue,” one user posted on Reddit.
In fact, a face-like object is visible in the lower-right quarter of the snapshot.
Nasa and other space experts have yet to explain what it really is.
The object is likely just a rock shaped like a face, rather than an ancient carving from an alien colony.
But that hasn’t stopped people from sharing their wild theories online.
“Most of the rocks and boulders you see scattered all over the surface of Mars are probably just remnants of asteroids that have been impacting the planet for millions of years,” one person commented.
“I would be more interested in what lies beneath the dirt and sand.”
Another excited space detective added, “Imagine if they started digging up the dirt on Mars and exposing ruins like an ancient civilization or something.”
A third person said: “Looks like a face to me.
“We’re looking at what’s left of a bygone civilization.”
Space fans are constantly discovering strange objects on Mars.
Recently, a strange spaghetti-like monster was seen on the Red Planet, whose origins Nasa had to explain.
Scattered across the surface of Mars are man-made objects from decades of exploration dating back to the first crash-landing on the red planet in 1971.
The Perseverance rover has been scanning the surface of Mars for almost 18 months.
In that time the bot has traveled over seven miles and almost taken 300,000 images.
