Zach Katz starts a new music company, Carte Blanche, and joins the board of FaZe Clan

Zach Katz, former President of BMG in the US and co-founder of Scooter Braun’s Raised In Space, has quietly started a new musical venture.

Katz left Raised In Space – the LA-based music tech fund founded in 2019 – to start his own company Carte Blanche earlier this year.

A description of Katz LinkedIn profile notes that Carte Blanche is “a modern music company founded to rewrite the rules for today’s creators, entrepreneurs and leaders”.

Carte Blanche is further described as a company that “brings content, talent and technology together to enhance the value of music”.

Adds the description: “Carte blanche is what you get when you build a music company on new ideas, new incentive structures and new forms of monetization. Don’t tell us we’re used to it. This is carte blanche.”

A recently Instagram post by Katz hints that Carte Blanche is collaborating with artist GrimStepper, who has signed a record deal Columbia Records.

In addition to introducing carte blanche, it was confirmed this week that Katz is joining the board of directors of Los Angeles-based esports media platform FaZe Clan – ahead of its proposed merger with BRPM, a special purpose entity (SPAC).

This deal makes FaZe Clan a public company on the NASDAQ, with a Valuation of $1 billion. The transaction is expected to close in spring 2022.

Just some of Faze Clans investors from the music business include Troy Carter, Guy Oseary and Pitbull.

Besides Katz, the FaZe Clan board of directors will also have a few other names familiar to those who work in music, including Snoop Dogg and Lee Drink.

Trink, CEO and co-founder of FaZe Clan and chairman of the board, is the past president of EMI Capitol music groupand a former general manager of Virgin Records.

According to a recent media release, the post-merger FaZe Clan board of directors is expected to consist of the following individuals:

In 2019, Zach Katz got the music industry talking when he teamed up with Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings and Ripple’s Xpring start a music tech mutual fund called Raised In Space Enterprises (RISE).

Until his departure from Raised In Space in January 2022, Katz ran the business alongside the firm’s President/Partner, Shara Senderoff.

At the launch, Raised In Space said it aims to “forge a proactive collaboration between music and technology with investments ranging from $500,000 to $5 million.”

Ithaca Holdings was acquired by South Korea’s HYBE last year a multi-billion dollar buyout.


Zach Katz began his career from 1996 to 2001 as a music attorney with the law offices of Katz & Katz in Los Angeles.

From 2001 to 2005, Katz moved into music management, representing prominent artists, producers and songwriters.

From 2006 to 2012 he was co-founder and CEO of the record label and music publishing company Beluga Heights in partnership with sony music and later, warner Records of the brothers.

Prior to Raised In Space, Katz was President, Repertoire and Marketing, BMG US, where he oversaw both recording and music releases. Katz’s joined BMG in 2012 as EVP of Creative and expanded his role to become BMG’s US Chief Creative Officer.

He then became BMG’s President of Music Publishing before rising to become BMG’s US head.
