Zak Emmerson scores as Brighton U21 tie against Worthing

Zak Emmerson starts the new season with a goal in a friendly.

And there was welcome playing time for fellow striker Ben Wilson.

Emmerson struck from close range on the hour mark as the U21s made full use of their squad in a 1-1 draw with Worthing behind closed doors.

Worthing continued as Lewis White rounded the keeper to score.

Albion gave two separate XIs 45 minutes each.

Wilson is looking forward to a productive season after signing a new one-year contract.

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international scored just one goal in an injury-plagued 2021/22 season.

He said: “I’m delighted that the club have placed their trust in me.

“I want to hit the ground running in pre-season so I’m in the best possible shape for the start of the new season.”

Andrew Crofts’ side play Hull City Under-21s behind closed doors during a pre-season trip to Spain.

Worthing, whose team included trialists, is heading to Selsey today for the Dave Kew Memorial Cup (3pm).

Albion (1st Half): Beadle, Packham, Tsoungui, Hinshelwood, Miller, Everitt, Hinchy, Shann, Baker-Boaitey, Moran, Tolaj.

Albion (2nd half): Cahill, Nilsson, Kavanagh, Turns, Furlong, Chouchane, Spong, Ifill, Wilson, Clark, Emmerson. Zak Emmerson scores as Brighton U21 tie against Worthing
