Release order of Zelda games

As many gamers know, with most long-running franchises, the order in which a game’s series is played can get muddled and complicated – but the easiest way to play Zelda is in release order.

And this is how you play the Nintendo favorite.

However, not everyone will agree on a definitive order in which to play Zelda – and that’s due to the different timelines that exist throughout the games.

Order of the Zelda timeline

There are a number of timelines that players need to be aware of if they want to play Zelda with a consistent narrative.

A lot of the games jump around over time so we only included the games that keep the timeline going – from start to finish or from the kids timeline to the fallen heroes timeline.

  • Sky Sword (2011)
  • The Minish Cap (2004)
  • Four Swords (2002)
  • Orcarina (1998)
  • Majora’s Mask (2000)
  • Twilight Princess (2006)
  • Adventures with Four Swords (2004)
