As expected, the latest Nintendo Direct closed the show with a fresh look at the upcoming sprawling adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
The exciting trailer began with elements that will be familiar to Breath of the Wild veterans, including paragliding, giant Hinoxes, and the sinister Blood Moon. After that, some of Link’s new toys got their chance to shine, such as weird arrows that change direction mid-flight and intricate vehicles.
While this isn’t the first time he’s gotten his hands on cars – the Champion’s Ballad DLC allowed him to rock through Hyrule on a dirt bike – it really takes it up a notch with a garish vehicle that evokes memories of Banjo. Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and even a real drone. Yes, Link from The Legend of Zelda takes to the skies on a drone. Not sure if you had that on your bingo card for 2023.
By the way, we also now have a release date as the game is set to be released on May 12th, 2023. Pre-orders are possible from today.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom even has a Collector’s Edition for the discerning Hylian enthusiast, which includes an artbook, steelbook, and the other usual ingredients. A new Link amiibo will also launch on the same day, and existing amiibo from the series will provide materials and weapons. They even allow you to unhook your paraglider as shown below:
If our hype levels haven’t already gone through the roof, they’ve now been escorted straight into the clouds via a drone. May can’t come fast enough!!
