Zelda: Twilight Princess HD developers would ‘love’ to bring game to Switch

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 won’t be releasing on the Nintendo Switch again this year, and Zelda fans have nothing really to look forward to in 2022. A rumor is wind alarm clock and Twilight Princess will fill that space.

Interestingly, Tantalus – the team that originally worked with Nintendo on Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U – was reportedly not asked about releasing them on the Switch. In a new episode of the Fragments of Silicon podcast, Tantalus CEO Tom Crago was asked if Nintendo had contacted the Australia-based developer regarding Twilight Princess HD for Switch.

Here’s what he had to say, according to Nintendo Everything:

“No, and look, of course we’d like to do that [Zelda: Twilight Princess HD]but that wasn’t a priority for Nintendo – or at least not in conversations they’ve had with us.

“The way it works with our friends over there is that we take every opportunity to work on one of their titles. There is a constant dialogue between our two companies. There’s often a bit of time between titles and there might be other ideas being tossed around, but in the case of Skyward Sword, some time passed and then the email came: “Would you be interested in bringing Skyward Sword to Switch.” bring?” To which the answer, of course, is, “Yes, we would.” And then we start discussions with Nintendo about what that might look like, and eventually we get going. So it was similar in a lot of ways to how Twilight Princess (on Wii U) played out.”

As mentioned in this exchange, Tantalus last worked on the Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD.

If Tantalus is already working on a project like Twilight Princess HD for Switch, it might not necessarily confirm that in a discussion like this. And remember, if Nintendo decides to re-release that particular game, it doesn’t have to contact the company that ported the Wii U version.
